Experiment with modes, opacity and colors. Black and white was created with desaturation. The Gaussian Blur is on a duplicate of black and white image. I moved the gray slider (middle) in Levels towards my left, to bring up more white.

Layer 2 at the top is my Displacement map.

Layer 3 and it's copy are the same shadow, intensified.

The Background Copy  is Overlay mode.

Layer 1 Copy has a Soft Light mode.

3D text, Repousse

I only did the 3D text part. There's really no place for a shadow but I'll have to try that on another image. It was a little confusing following what the guy was doing but I'm pleased with the text.

My first thought while watching this tutorial was to make eyes that had turned white but then as I was experimenting I noticed the odd RGB effect on the iris in the first image. seemed pretty cool.
